Lightbulb The Tyrian Marathon

This would be a fun event to hold in Tyria.

A Marathon across the main continent.

This is how it could be done:
  • All runners start in Ruins of Surmia.
  • Finish line is Henge of Denravi.
  • All runners must be paired with one "Referee".
  • The Umpire in Ruins of Surmia gives the start signal.
  • The runners, in their teams of two - one runner, one referee - depart.
  • The referees and Umpire all belong to the same Committee Guild. This guild can be created for this specific event. The reason for this is they referees and umpire can communicate on Guild channel. Each runner/referee will be in their own instance and therefore minimize lag.
  • The first runner to reach Henge of Denravi - wins the marathon.
  • The referees can report runners progress as they pass through portals or stop in Towns/Outposts.
  • If a runner or referee drops their internet or gets a Net Err - that runner is disqualified.
  • Referree would be Team Leaders to prevent runners from travelling to Towns.
  • Any profession can be used as primary or secondary.
  • Any items that your character possesses can be used.
Prizes for First, Second, and Third place can be given.

Prizes might be:
  1. Gold
  2. Green items.
  3. New mini-pet.
  4. New Title – “Tyrian Marathon Champion / Tyrian Marathon Runner / Tyrian Marathon Pacer” for First, Second, and Third place.
Reports could be broadcast at the major cities and Towns along the way by other officials in the Committee Guild.

Could find some way to work around the limitations of 100 max for the Committee members.

Feedback?

that sounds really difficult to do.... and... Mesmers rule at running!!

lol j/k. I agree though, winning a title is pretty useless...

Also, I think you'd have to accomodate for the thousands of participants, especially if its a local event hosted by anet.

Don't ask for titles for these things, please. They're already not-that-meaningful enough, without making them frivolous.

As for the marathon: The time across so many zones will greatly be altered by the performance of someone's computer. Slow-load-time computers will stand no chance.

I think that would be a great idea in the future .... for one thing there would have to be GW moderators monitoring the logs of the runner to make sure they don't travel by teleport to towns, cause I'm sure that some noob and noob partner will do that just to annoy someone. I would think it would be cool to put a more challenging part in there because I run droks and I've learned to run to ToA and to run Sanctum cay and they are nothing compared to the droks run .,.. which will mean all the droks runners will probably wipe the competition. It is smart to have each runner in different in their own district to reduce lag.

And if someone has a disadvantage because their computer is slow or internet is not fast that is their problem ... it specifically states you need to have a broadband connection for best preformance, and it states on the cover of the game the computer requirements to run it properly.

The title I'm not so much into ... because that would be too easy of a title. I think there should be prizes given by the GW committe through moderation (means they log it in your account so it will automatically show up in your inventory). This would be a pretty cool little event, and I think GW does need to start adding more events to the game besides just holiday gifts.

Sounds like fun, but I could see those of us with a slightly slower loading time being screwed.

The loading time shouldn't be an issue. If you've already had the explorable area loaded from a previous visit and it would have to be ensured that all the referees had visited the explorable areas.

Could make the referee requirement to be a Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer.

The travelling would be eliminated by having the referees be the team leader. If someone other than the team leader attempts to travel they simply leave the party. Thus they are disqualified.

The titles was just a possible reward. We could probably just have some kind of prize and a mention of the results in The Scribe.

If anyone is interested in helping me set up a test trial. We'll say those that are interested in competing and those that are interested in being on the committee to referee and moderate. Simply post and I'll try to come up with some kind of competition. This may or may not have some reward (have to check on my storage ).

Yea im just saying ya know there has to be a limit to how many members compete, and I'm sure no one will want noobs to take the spot of a expert runner. But yea as long as everyone can make it through the race we should be ok

And yes if you run it once all the maps should be loaded which equals a short load time ... and if someone has a slow computer that's their own fault they didn't read the requirements. One thing that im suspecious about is how many people will complain about getting a nurfed spawn though -_-

Edit: I'd be interested lol

Looking for 5 runners that want to do an Ascalon Marathon as a trial - from Ruins of Surmia to Nolani Academy. First 5 runners will be chosen.

Looking for 6 Referrees that want to help. One referree per runner, and one to start and be at the finish line of the race.

I want to observe and see how this goes with objective points of view.

Date to be determines on runners/referrees availability.

This will be a trial of the big marathon - to see if it is feasible. We can also post the results in the Riverside Inn Forum.

I'm definately up for this, I posted something similar but not as detailed in another thread. I've got a 93% Tyrian char which can ref or run =D

Btw Assassin runners ftw.

Utterly horrible rule; especially given the current instability of ANet.
Err7 will cause the runner to restart from the last town visited. Might make it worth you while to stop in Piken Square or the Courthouse, then, rather than making a straight run for Yak's Bend.

If a lot of players enter, there could just be heats set up to wittle down the actual number of competitors at any one time.

A disconnect during a race would almost surely cause the runner to lose. Even if they did log back on and get the referee, and then continue on their run.

This would just a fun event that Anet could run over a weekend.

They could even throw in a couple of random patrols and mix up the spawns a bit to keep the runners on their toes.

Be better if the titles required to win over 100 times orsomething if you're planning to hold more than one
